John A. Hubbard, Esq. is a business trial lawyer who leads the Firm's litigation practice.  He specializes in civil litigation with concentrations in securities law, construction law, and commercial disputes.  He has been lead trial counsel in State and Federal courts and arbitrations throughout the United States.  Mr. Hubbard has extensive experience in litigating such issues as business torts, contract disputes, injunctive actions, employment law, construction claims, securities, minority shareholder oppression and shareholder disputes, enforcement and defense of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements and trade secret matters.

 

Mr. Hubbard is a leading proponent and practitioner of early and alternative dispute resolution: the process of strategically resolving business disagreements before they reach the courts.

 

Mr. Hubbard co-founded Beals Hubbard, PLC in 1999. He is a Member of the Oakland County Bar Association (former chairman, Federal Court Committee and ADR Committee), and the American Bar Association (Forum on the Construction Industry and Litigation Sections).  He is admitted to the practice of law in the US District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.  Mr. Hubbard is also an elected representative for the Sixth District of the Michigan State Bar Representative Assembly.  He was appointed to the Michigan State Bar Character and Fitness Committee in 2001 and was chairman of District I for 2006-2007.

 

Mr. Hubbard has acted as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), National Association Securities Dealers (NASD), New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), American Arbitration Association (AAA), and the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) as well as a Mediator for the AAA and in private mediation.

 

Mr. Hubbard is a frequent lecturer on securities, construction, and employment law matters.

Representative Matters

 

  • Obtained a Judgment against General Motors Company for $11.1 Million Dollars on behalf of a newly formed intellectual property supplier.
  • Obtained a Jury Verdict of over $500,000 against a industrial boiler manufacturer in the Eastern District of Michigan.
  • Successful representation in a wide range of business tort litigation, including fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secrets and non-compete agreements.  He has also obtained restraining orders and preliminary injunction in numerous restrictive covenant cases.
  • Obtained numerous summary judgments defeating claims based on restrictive covenants and misappropriation of trade secrets.
  • Obtained settlement in excess of $1 Million against window manufacturers on behalf of several home window installer companies.
  • Successfully represented several clients in corporate, partnership and shareholder disputes, receiverships and dissolutions.
  • Obtained a Jury Verdict for over $270,000 in a dispute between siblings involving their mother's estate in probate court.
